Jordan gunman killed three Israeli guards at West Bank border

A Jordan gunman Maher Dyab Hussein al-Jazi reportedly killed three Israeli guards at the King Hussein (Allenby) Bridge border crossing between West Bank and Jordan.

According to the Israeli Military, the alleged attacker drove up in a truck on Sep 8, 2024, morning. He came from a nearby Jordanian village, Al-Karameh. After reaching the border crossing, he started firing on border guards.

The military revealed three Israeli citizens who died as a result of this attack were working as security guards. They were not affiliated with the army or police.

It clarified that private security guards manage the border crossing while Israeli security forces are stationed alongside. However, they killed a Jordan gunman after he allegedly killed their three Israeli guards in the fatal shooting incident.

Later, the Jordanian Interior Ministry revealed the identity of the suspected attacker. It stated dead attacker Maher Dyab was a resident of the Husseiniya area in the southern Ma’an governorate of Jordan.

Jordanian Ministry confirm trading closed at Bridge

After this incident, Israel has closed all border crossings with Jordan. The Jordan’s Interior Ministry confirmed that King Hussein (Allenby) Bridge has closed.

It is one of five land border crossings between the two nations and a vital point for trade. It serves the more than 3 million Palestinians who reside in the West Bank.

The fatal shooting incident happened in an Israeli-controlled commercial cargo terminal where Jordanian vehicles unloaded goods before entering the Israeli-occupied West Bank.

Since Israel-Hamas started its war on Gaza in October 2023, this is the first attack of its kind along the Jordanian border.

This shooting comes a few days after Israeli soldiers pulled out from the West Bank city of Jenin. Before their withdrawal from Jenin, they raided homes and destroyed water facilities of Palestinians while killing more than 30 there.
