Dubai begins the world’s largest airport terminal construction for $35bn to have the highest capacity in the world. The name of this new airport is AI Maktoum International Airport.

The ruler of the United States Emirates (UAE), Sheikh Mohammad bin Rashid Al Maktoum, announced that the upcoming terminal would accommodate up to 260 million passengers a year.

This terminal will be five times larger than the existing Dubai International Airport. He said all operations will be moved to the more modern AI Maktoum International Airport from Dubai International Airport.

Sheikh Mohammad bin Rashid said they need to establish a metropolis size of a million people when they develop Dubai South around the airport. The top businesses in the aviation and logistics industries worldwide would be households there.

Sheikh Mohammad Rashid also said they are constructing a new project for the benefit of future generations. It guarantees steady and ongoing growth for their children and their children’s children. Dubai will be the airport, port, metropolitan center, and the new global hub.

AI Maktoum International Airport was introduced in 2010. It will house 400 airplane gates and five parallel runways, serving as the new home of Emirates, the airline’s flagship.

Dubai Airports CEO Paul Griffiths predicted the project would strengthen Dubai’s standing as a premier aviation center. Paul also said the aviation Infrastructure of Dubai has always followed the city’s growth. Today marks another significant milestone in that direction.

The capacity of Dubai International Airport has limitations as it has been the busiest airport in the world for international travel for ten years. It experienced 87 million passengers last year, exceeding pre-pandemic numbers.

It claimed a record 17.15 million overnight foreign visitors, which is an increase of over 20 percent from the year before. Hence, Dubai begins construction of the world’s largest airport terminal for $35bn.
