Andhra Pradesh and Telangana flood: 27 people died & 17000 evacuated
Flood outbroke due to continuous heavy rainfall in Indian states of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana which killed at least 27 people. It started on September 1, 2024, and continues for the second consecutive day.
Millions of people have been affected by widespread flooding. It has massively disrupted rail and road traffic flow. The administrations of both states have imposed emergency in the aftermath of the deadliest food.
The heavy rainfall claimed 15 lives in Telangana and 12 lives in Andhra Pradesh as rivers in these states reached dangerous levels of overflow. State authorities have evacuated more than 17,000 people from Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.
National and state disaster response teams have rushed affected states people to relief camps as further rainfall is to come. Around 140 trains have been canceled in flood-hit Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.
Several trains have diverted routes due to waterlogged tracks across the South Central Railway network in Telangana, Andhra Pradesh. This railway network also serves surrounding states in south Vindhyas.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a red flood alert with heavy to extremely heavy rainfall in several districts of Telangana till today. Adilabad, Nizamabad, Rajanna Sircilla, Yadadri Bhuvangiri, Vikarabad, Sangareddey, Kamareddy, and Mahabubhnagar are among those districts.
It has also issued a red flood alert for several districts in Andhra Pradesh including Srikakulam, Vijayanagaran, Parvatipuram Manyam, Alluri Sitarama Raju, Kakinada, and Nandyala.
City Vijayawada in Andhra Pradesh has faced immense destruction due to the deadliest flood with the Budameru rivulet overflowing.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi contacted both states’ Chief Ministers to provide all possible assistance from the federal government to overcome the flood crisis. N. Chandrababu Naidu is the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh while A. Revanth Reddy is the Chief Minister of Telangana.
