9 Israeli soldiers arrested over gang rape of Palestinian prisoner

Israel military police arrested 9 Israeli soldiers at Sde Teiman over suspected gang rape and sexual abuse of Palestinian prisoner. They charged and arrested soldiers on charges of sexually assaulting a Palestinian prisoner.

However, their arrest led to a riot and almost civil war when extreme right-wing protestors and members of the Israeli parliament protested outside Sde Teiman prison. They showed support to the suspected soldiers.

Soldiers reportedly locked themselves within the prison and used pepper spray to defend themselves before being taken into custody during a military raid.

This military action came against soldiers after a Palestinian prisoner suffered from a serious wound in his rectum area. Israeli military suspected him of being sexually abused.

Military police rushed the victim prisoner to a hospital in Beersheba, southern Israel from Sde Teiman, Negev desert. According to media reports, the victim, a Palestinian prisoner is unable to walk.

The Israeli army declared that their detention laws are under International laws. Following that, their investigation is underway.

Surprisingly, right-wing Israelis showed intense aggression and outage when the military arrested 9 accused Israeli soldiers. They also called for nationwide protests in support of one another.

Dozens of Israeli civilians including parliamentarians and Heritage Minister Amichal Eliyahu gathered outside Sde Teiman and broke into the prison against arrests.

The Knesset, the Israeli parliament, is presently on summer vacation. But Israeli media reported that parliamentarians who wish to support soldiers will request an emergency meeting today.

Meanwhile, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu demanded the “immediate calm” from all parties. He also condemned the attack on the prison.

Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich referred to accused soldiers as “heroic warriors.” However, the Minister of National Security and Overseer of Prisons, Itamar Ben Gvir called suspects “best heroes.” He condemned the arrests as “shameful.”

It is significant to note that Palestinians have long complained about mistreatment, including torture and sexual assault in Israeli jails. They have experienced systematic torture and abuse without any charge in jails since the October 7 conflict.

Some Palestinian prisoners revealed shocking and humiliating imprisonment conditions in Israel after their release. They claimed Israeli jail authorities physically tortured them with dogs and electricity. They fell victim to mock executions with degrading and inhumane treatment.
