Famous Titanic movie star Leonardo Dicaprio wanted a villain role in the film Killers of the Flower Moon 2023 directed by Martin Scorsese. Robert De Niro and Lily Gladstone are also part of this movie’s cast.

Leonardo may be the star of the latest movie of Martin Scorsese but he is not most certainly the hero of this film. Surprisingly, he wanted a villain role in “Killers” despite concerns from the studio.

Leonardo DiCaprio opted for a murderer role

Leonardo portrayed the role as Ernest Burkhart, a man who marries an Osage woman named Molly Kyle. Lily Gladstone portrayed the role of Molly Kyle. Ernest gets involved in the dark plot to not only murder her family but also poison her as well.

“Killers of the Flower Moon” is basically based on a book written on a true story by David Grann. This shows the murderer of members of the Osage Nation in Oklahoma by White settlers in the 1920s century after recently discovered oil. It makes the Osage people the richest in the country.

The central focus of the book is on the federal investigation into the deaths. However, the film director Martin and his team shifted the focus to the relationship between Ernest and Molly and the impact on Osage People.

Martin told WSJ Magazine that Leonardo meant to play the role of investigator. But he voluntarily opted for the character of Ernest. While giving an interview with British Vogue, Leonardo said with the first version’s role as investigator, he didn’t feel like it got to the heart of it.”

He added that they were not immersed in the Osage story. There was this tiny, small scene between Molly and Ernest. It provoked such emotion in us at the reading. And they just started to penetrate into what that relationship was. Because it was so twisted and curious and unlike anything he had ever experienced before.
