ED raided Jaffer Sadiq’s properties in drugs money laundering case

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) raided multiple Jaffer Sadiq’s properties in Tamil Nadu in the investigation into drug trafficking and money laundering against him.

Jaffer Sadiq is a former member of the Indian Political party DMK (Dravida Munnetra Kazgham). He is also the producer of Tamil films. According to media sources, ED has begun its money laundering case investigation.

ED raided Jaffer Sadiq’s properties at about 25 places including Tamil Nadu towns, Chennai, Madurai, and Tiruchirapalli. They are conducting raids at the properties of Sadiq Jaffer under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).

ED personnel began a search at 7 a.m. at Jaffer Sadiq’s Santhome home. They also searched the office of film director Ameer due to his link with Jaffer in T Nagar. They raided locations of Kodungaiyur, Kilpauk, and Radhakrishnan Salai.

Before the raid, ED had filed a case against Jaffer Sadiq and a few others based on the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB)’s case. It included allegations of smuggling pseudoephedrine into countries like Australia and New Zealand.

NCB arrested Jaffer and five people including his close ally Sadnandam in February 2024 after they raided a godown in Delhi and found 50 kg of pseudoephedrine. The smuggled drug pseudoephedrine is worth more than Rs 2,000 crore.

Gyaneshwar Singh, the deputy director general of NCB operations, confirmed the arrest of Sadiq Jaffer. He said he is the kingpin of the India-Australia-New Zealand drug trafficking network. Hence, they were investigating this case.

According to NCB, it was investigating Jaffer’s link to Tamil and Hindi cinema financiers. Some high-profile individuals and cases of political funding were under investigation.

However, following the name of Jaffer Sadiq in NBC’s list of investigations and his link to the illegal drug network, the ruling DMK party expelled him in February 2024.
