American singer Daryl Hall has sued his longtime music partner John Oates. Daryl says that his proposal to sell his share of a joint venture would violate the terms of a commercial agreement formed by the Hall & Oates collaboration.

This move forced a judge to stop the sale while legal processes and a previously launched arbitration proceeding continued.

On Nov. 16, a Nashville chancery court judge issued the temporary restraining order. It stated that John and others involved in his trust cannot proceed with the sale of their share of Whole Oats Enterprises LLP to Primary Wave IP Investment Management LLC.

Until an arbitrator in a separate case weighs in on the deal, or until the judge’s order expires typically within 15 days or unless a judge extends the deadline.

Chancellor Russell Perkins issued the order on the same day Daryl filed his lawsuit. The lawsuit shows Daryl initiated an arbitration process against Oates and the other defendants in the lawsuit. It includes Oates’ wife, Aimee Oates, and Richard Flynn in their roles as co-trustees of Oates’ trust.

Daryl requested a restraining order to prevent them from selling their stake in Whole Oats Enterprises to Primary Wave Music. According to the lawsuit, John’s team said at the time that the transaction might be completed within days. Despite the fact that no arbitrator was appointed to resolve the dispute.

The court will hear the case on November 30. Until then, Daryl gets a restraining order and John can’t sell the asset amid their legal battle.
