Iran leader Khamenei ordered attack on Israel in revenge for Ismail’s death
Supreme leader of Iran Sayyed Ali Khamenei reportedly ordered the attack on Israel in revenge for the assassination of Hamas chief Ismail Haniyeh.
Supreme National Security Council of Iran issued this order under the command of Ali Khamenei during an emergency meeting. The top three Iranian officials reportedly briefed following Ali Khamenei’s order.
Earlier, Ali Khamenei mentioned retaliation in a post on X. He wrote it is their duty to take revenge following the bitter, tragic event that has taken place within the borders of the Islamic Republic.
Meanwhile, US Secretary of Defence Lloyd Austin declared they would certainly help defend Israel if Iran launched an attack on it.
US National Security Communications, John Kirby also stated they have and will maintain a level of readiness to preserve their national security interest in the region.
He said it is not as though they ignore what Iran has the capability of accomplishing in the region which they have demonstrated before.
They have shown the US is willing to protect Israel from regional threats including Iranian threats if they occur. According to John, the US still has the ability and the readiness to counter Iran’s attack.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu discussed its existential struggle with Iran on July 31, 2024 night. He cautioned that there would be difficult days ahead and Israel was ready for any situation.
However, the assassination of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh created turbulence among top Iranian officials. Iran is considered to be a supporter of Hamas. Following this, Iran leader Khamenei vowed to avenge the death of Ismail and ordered an attack on Israel.
It is significant to note that Iran had already launched a direct attack on Israel in April 2024. It shot 300 drones and missiles at Israel.
