Indian farm laborer died after employer left him on road with cut arm in Italy
An Indian farm laborer Satnam Singh died after his employer left him on the road with a cut arm following an accident in Italy. This tragic incident happened on June 19, 2024.
This incident has gained widespread attention after the tragic death of Satnam. Italian Minister for Labour and Social Policies, Marina Calderone described this incident as a “barbaric act.”
Marina informed Italy’s Parliament that an Indian agricultural laborer employed in Latina passed away yesterday. He died after his employer abandoned him on the road after an accident that cut his arm.
The opposition party (Democratic) strongly criticized the circumstances under which Satnam Singh was working. They also expressed condolences and solidarity with the wife and family of Satnam.
Following this accident, the Indian embassy expressed sadness at the horrific death of Satnam Singh. Italian authorities have informed them about this incident.
Indian Embassy stated it was collaborating with local Italian authorities to contact the family of the deceased and provide them with diplomatic help.
Flai CGIL is an Italian corporation that organizes agricultural workers in the country. According to Flai CGIL, Satnam Singh was on a farm when his arm was cut off in a slicing machine during his work job.
Following this accident, he was abandoned on the road near his home instead of helping him. The wife and friends of Satnam informed the police about this incident as they found Satnam injured condition.
Soon police sent an air ambulance to shift the injured Satnam to hospital. However, Indian farm laborer Satnam Singh died due to a critically injured arm.
Latina, the accident place is a rural region in the South of Rome that accommodates thousands of Indian migrant laborers. However, Satnam was 31 years old and working in Latina without legal documentation.
This incident has also caused widespread controversial debate on the living circumstances and conditions of undocumented workers.
