Maseno University Student arrested for alleged rape of female students
DCI arrested a 23-year-old male student of Maseno University, Jacktone Oluoch Owitifor his alleged involvement in the violent robbery and rape of two female students.
The DCI officials arrested the suspect Jacktone at his house in the Chulaimbo area in Maseno town. DCI released a statement that they arrested a suspected student for raping two female students belonging to Maseno University.
The statement explained that the alleged incident of robbery and rape happened on the night of April 14, 2024. DCI detectives revealed they also found one of the victim’s phones from possession of Jacktone, which he stole at incident night.
A member of community policing within the Nyawita area with two victim students reported this incident to the police. The victims are their first-year students aged between 19 and 20 years.
The female students reported that they were sleeping in their room when two attackers assaulted them late at night. The attackers had a dagger and a machete. They covered their faces with masks.
According to victims, the armed men kicked the door open and threatened the girls to kill them if they raised a voice. They raped them and stole their smartphones before disappearing.
Afterward, the victims screamed for help, and then neighbors helped and rushed them to a local hospital for medical care. Upon reporting this information, police officers conducted a widespread investigation to catch the suspect.
After several days of hunting, they caught Jacktone Oluoch Owitifor. Moreover, the detectives are speeding up the investigation of this case to arrest other suspects related to this incident.
In a separate incident, DCI officers arrested a suspected man for sexually abusing two college students in Kakamega last year. The two victim female students were sleeping in their room at Kamgoi Village.
Meanwhile, two armed men approached them at around 6 a.m. They also threatened them with blades if they raised their voices and sexually assaulted them.
