Yuvraj & Harbhajan faced police complaint for mocking disabled people
Ex-Indian cricketers including Yuvraj Singh, Harbhajan Singh, Suresh Raina, Yuvraj Singh, and Gurkeerat Mann faced a police complaint for mocking disabled people. This legal proceeding against them came in response to their Instagram video.
In the alleged video, the cricket players can be seen falling and holding their backs. It was uploaded after India Champions beat Pakistan Champions in the World Championship of Legends final.
They adopted certain body moves on the song ‘Tauba Tauba’ from the film ‘Bad Newz’. In an Instagram video, Harbhajan, Yuvraj, Raina, and Gurkeerat Mann appeared pretending to walk with difficulty.
They seem to be trying to show how playing in a game has affected their aging bodies (referring to Pakistani players). But what they did Indians consider as disrespectful and mocking to the handicapped people.
Following this, the National Center for the Promotion of Employment for Disabled People (NCPEDP) approached the police. It stated that the former Indian cricketers were “insulting and mocking” disabled people on social media.
However, Harbhajan Singh has responded to widespread criticism and apologized for hurting the sentiments of people.
Arman Ali, the Executive Director of the NCPEDP registered a formal complaint against the accused players. Hence, former cricketers including Yuvraj, Harbhajan, Raina, and Gurkeerat faced a legal complaint by Delhi police at Amar Colony police station in New Delhi.
According to Arman, Harbhajan Singh is an MP. So, he should speak out for disabled people. But what kind of movie is he making? In India, lots of people don’t know much about disorders.
Instead, the accused made fun of disabled people. That is why, he filed this complaint. The accused did this whole thing under the cover of fun and games.
Arman also stated they also wish to file a complaint against Sandhya Devanathan, the vice president and managing director of Meta India. Since the platform’s approval of such content that violates user guidelines on Instagram constitutes a violation of the Information Technology Act of 2000.
