Olympics Drag artist Barbara Butch filed complaint against online haters
Drag artist Barbara Butch filed a cyberbullying complaint against online haters for mocking her performance during the opening ceremony of the Olympics. A drag artist is a person who dresses up and performs in exaggerated clothing and makeup for entertainment purposes.
It is significant to note that Barbara is also a French DJ star of the Olympics, a positive body feminist, and a lesbian activist. She stated in her complaint she received death threats, cyberbullying, and online abuse.
This complaint came after her performance at a controversial set at the Olympic opening ceremony on July 26, 2024. Many show spectators criticized her as she was the main focus of a scene that featured drag queens and dancers. It looked a lot like pictures of the Last Supper.
The Last Supper is the final meal of Jesus Christ which he shared with his 12 apostles in Jerusalem before his execution. Following this, Catholic groups, French bishops, and former US President Donald Trump criticized this scene calling it a disrespectful parody.
Following this, Barbara claimed she became a victim of particularly violent cyber harassment. She decided not to speak out to let the haters cool down at first but the messages she receives are increasingly extreme.
So, she refused to stop talking. She is not afraid of people- who vent resentment and anger behind a screen or a fictitious name. She is proud and devoted.
Hence, Olympics Drag artist Barbara Butch filed a complaint through her lawyer Audrey Msellati by attaching cyberbullying reports.
She claimed to fall victim to fat-shaming, homophobic, sexist, and anti-Semitic insults. Online haters are allegedly giving her death threats, torture, and rape after her Olympics performance.
Barbara is filing multiple complaints against these acts and threats whether committed by French nationals or foreigners. She intends to prosecute anyone who threatened her.
