German footballer Thomas Muller retired from International football at 34
German footballer Thomas Muller retired from International football after Spain defeated England in the finals of the European Championship (Euro) 2024. He scored 45 goals in 131 games while playing for Germany.
This decision came because Thomas wanted to devote all his attention to Bayern Munich for the remainder of his career. He thanked everyone for supporting him.
He stated he was always proud to represent his country. While he is no longer a player on the field, he is crossing his fingers for the team as they travel to the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
However, Julien Nagelsmann, the head coach of Germany, congratulated Thomas for his contributions to the national team. He said he was grateful to have worked with a player of such caliber at the club and national levels.
According to Julien, Thomas is a dedicated professional. He has great enthusiasm for football, as he was on the first day. He has added his athletic abilities and value to their European Championship team as a leader.
Julien also called him a leader, inspiration, and relatable character. He said Thomas hit him as an intelligent player on the football field- physically and emotionally.
Moreover, Julien believes that Thomas will undoubtedly continue to influence German football – as a player for FC Bayern and in other areas in the future.
However, he said he regretted that he would not be with them anymore. Hence, he will extremely miss Thomas on the national squad.
Thomas was part of a significant German squad that defeated Argentina by 1-0 in the 2014 FIFA World Cup final. He won twelve Bundesliga titles, six DFB-Pokals, eight DFL-Supercups, and two UEFA Champions League titles.
Other awards include two UEFA Super Cups and two FIFA Club World Cups. German footballer Thomas Muller retired from International football after playing for sixteen years.
