Drinking two to four cups of coffee daily reduces bowel cancer risk
A new study shows that drinking two to four cups of coffee daily can reduce bowel cancer disease recurrence. Disease recurrence is the return of a disease or its symptoms after an improvement period.
The International Journal of Cancer has published this study. According to the study, coffee drinking may benefit those with bowel cancer, the UK’s second top cancer killer.
Bowel cancer is also known as colon or colorectal cancer which develops in the colon or rectum. Colon are parts of the large intestine.
Scientists conducted study research in the Netherlands with 1,719 bowel cancer patients. It found a deep connection between coffee drinking and disease recurrence. Those who consumed at least two cups per day had a decreased risk of cancer recurrence.
However, people who consume five or more cups per day showed a significant reduction in bowel cancer recurrence. Higher coffee consumption showed a link to better survival rates among bowel cancer patients.
People who drank at least two cups of coffee had a decreased risk of death than non-coffee users while those drinking four or more cups showed the largest reduction of death risk.

This study shows promising results implying that frequent coffee drinking may benefit, those with colon or bowel cancer. However, it needs further research if additional research confirms these results, it might potentially change the conduct of 43,000 Britains diagnosed with bowel cancer each year.
The research study may also prove very beneficial in decreasing the death toll due to bowel cancer disease in the United Kingdom and all over the world. About 16,500 people die per year due to bowel cancer disease.
Dr. Ellen Kampman is the lead author of this research study. She explained the potential role of coffee drinking in decreasing bowel cancer recurrence. She said it was surprising that drinking two to four cups of coffee may reduce the recurrence of bowel cancer.
