Youth Curfew announced for Alice Springs after street violence
Chief Minister of Northern Territory Eva Dina Lawler has announced a youth curfew for Alice Springs, a town in Australia. Eva Lawler has announced a youth curfew for two weeks in Alice Springs.
The curfew ban applies to persons under the age of eighteen years from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. in the town’s CBD (central business district). It came after a disturbing video emerged on March 26, 2024.
The video shows a huge mob beating at the doors of an Alice Springs tavern. Meanwhile, the publican braves tried to keep them out of the broken glass door.
A community action organization, Action for Alice provided the video footage of the disturbing incident. A man appeared standing outside the door of Todd Tavern while pressing it shut with his foot in the video. Several youngsters were also spotted kicking and throwing objects at the glass, almost totally breaking it.
The glass door had almost cracked by the end of the 20-second video. A mob of youngsters shot down a glass door. As a result, the door’s metal frames bent and twisted.
A separate video shows guests inside the restaurant anxiously contacting authorities for help as a violent mob threw bricks through a glass. More photographs from the event show at least three youngsters surrounding cars with broken windows and panels.

According to reports, about 100 people rushed to the streets yesterday to spread chaos following a burial ceremony for a teenager who died in a recent crash while traveling in a car that had been allegedly stolen.
Hence, this incident of street violence led residents and leaders of Alice Springs to request immediate help for their troubled regional community.
Northern Territory Police will send an additional 58 officers to the town. However, there will be no penalty for breaking the curfew.
Apart from yesterday’s violence, a series of violent incidents have happened in Alice Springs in recent weeks. It includes a violent event that took place on March 23, 2024. When a group of ten young women beat and stripped a 16-year-old girl.
