Senior politician Omar Ayub resigned as PTI Secretary General
Senior politician Omar Ayub has resigned as secretary general of the former ruling party Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI). His resignation confirmed the rumors of internal divisions within the party.
Omar Ayub is also currently serving as the leader of the opposition in the National Assembly. According to media reports, he presented his resignation on June 22, 2024.
However, PTI founder Imran Khan accepted his resignation yesterday. Even some PTI insiders were surprised when Imran accepted the resignation. They believed that Imran would ask Omar to continue his position.
Omar Ayub announced his resignation on his official Twitter X. He stated that he could not fulfill his duties as the party’s secretary general. This is because he also maintains the opposition leader position in the National Assembly.
Moreover, senior politician Omar Ayub also resigned as chairman of the PTI’s Central Finance Board. However, he clarified that he would still work for the party.
In his resignation letter to Imran, Omar stated he tried to give it his all during extremely turbulent circumstances. He learned a great deal under your energetic leadership.
According to Omar, PTI family members have faced extreme adversity over the past two years, but they have not collapsed. He believes that because Imran Khan has selected him to lead the opposition in the National Assembly, he is not qualified to serve as secretary general.

Both positions demand complete attention and bear the parliamentary workload with the commitments of the constituency he represents in the National Assembly.
Hence, he feels that someone else should be the secretary general to organize the party structure and work under the guidance of Imran to prepare PTI for elections in the future.
Omar Ayub also sent a copy of his resignation letter to PTI chairman Barrister Gohar Ali. However, he was re-elected as secretary general of the party last month.
Even though the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has not yet declared the results of its most recent intra-party elections to be “legal.”
