Sanam Javed to contest elections against Maryam Nawaz

PTI activist Sanam Javed has announced to contest the upcoming general elections 2024 against Maryam Nawaz Sharif. Sanam is currently in Kot Lakhpat Jail for about eight months.

Maryam Nawaz Sharif is the Senior Vice President of Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PMLN). Sanam Javed has made this decision from jail. Her father said Sanam will file nomination papers from the PP-150 Lahore constituency.

The father of Sanam Javed revealed while talking to Geo News over the phone that she has decided to contest the elections against Maryam Nawaz. The general elections will take place in Pakistan on February 8, 2024.

Her father stated that Sanam will run for elections on the PTI ticket and will also file nomination papers for the reserved women’s seat. They are gathering documents to file her (Sanam) nomination papers.

Meanwhile, Maryam Nawaz has yet to declare from which constituency she will run in the elections. The parliamentary board of PMLN has started interviewing candidates for party tickets.

According to the election timetable, The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) will begin accepting nomination papers from potential candidates tomorrow.

The procedure is about to begin today. It follows the oathtaking of district returning officers (DROS) and returning officers (ROs) by the electoral authority under the Elections Act 2017.

Sanam is one of dozens of PTI activists and leaders who were detained in connection with the May 9 riots. It erupted after the arrest of former Prime Minister Imran Khan in the Al-Qadir trust case.

She has several charges for different offenses. It includes an attack on the Corps Commander House in Lahore. As well as the torching of police vehicles in the Cantonment area earlier this year amid the violent protests.
