Sahil Adeem received backlash for calling 95% of women “jahil”
Famous internet personality Sahil Adeem received backlash for calling 95% of women “jahil or ignorant.” This controversy started when Sahil Adeem appeared on the Samaa Digital show, “Makalma” with renowned writer Khalilur Rehman Qamar.
Ayesha Jahanzeb hosted this show’s episode. Sahil stated if you take a sample of 100 women, 95 of them will be illiterate and ignorant. He emphasized that this is reality.
Sahil remarked these women are only aware of dance, cooking, and makeup, but they are unaware of Islam. He questioned how mosques might get them involved.
He passed these remarks while answering a question about mosque mobilization for women’s rights. This topic of conversation came when Sahil and Khalilur Rehman talked about women’s rights and human rights while emphasizing how social media may be used to draw attention to these issues.
There was a question and answer session at the end of their conversation when one of the show participants urged Sahil to apologize for his derogatory comments towards women.
Asba, a female participant in the show, asked him to apologize to all the women he called Jahil. A video of his disagreement with Asba went viral. Asba said a man cannot decide how many percent of women are Jahil and describe the status of women.
On the other hand, Sahil claimed that it was acceptable in Islam to call an ignorant person ignorant (jahil). He repeated his arguments and instructed her to get a sample and run the test that would justify his remarks regarding ignorant women.
Sahil also responded to Asba, calling her ignorant. He said he beg her pardon as her daughter (referring to Asba) is illiterate. It is his fault that his daughter is ignorant.
However, Asba intervened and said Sahil was changing the subject of the conversation. Meanwhile, Khalilur Rehman asked the host to take a mike back from Asba to end this debate.
Following this interview, Sahil Adeem has received severe backlash from youngsters, especially from women. Netizens are calling him out to apologize for his unjustified remarks on women.
