Rawalpindi Commissioner confessed to rigging in 2024 Elections

Rawalpindi Commissioner Liaquat Ali Chattha has resigned and confessed to the rigging in the 2024 elections in his district. He acknowledged his role in rigging during a news conference at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, Chatta.

Liaquat claimed that he tried suicide earlier in the day owing to overwhelming guilt regarding his involvement in rigged election results in Rawalpindi district. He also demonstrated that he would handle himself to the police and accept responsibility for the incident.

He also apologized for pressuring his subordinates to engage in misconduct and stated they made victorious candidates lose 13 seats in the Rawalpindi district.

The Rawalpindi Commissioner accused Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Sikandar Sultan Raja of involvement in the rigging. He claimed that he, CEC, and Chief Justice of Pakistan Qazi Faez Isa should be hanged to death at Kacheri Chowk, Rawalpindi. They have done injustice to the Pakistani nation.

Liaquat also revealed he decided to unveil the truth before everyone after trying suicide during the Fajr prayer. He admitted to having terrible nights because of the breach of trust in the people and the country.

Rawalpindi Commissioner also confessed that he saw presiding officers sobbing at his order. Following his confession, police arrested Rawalpindi Commissioner Liaquat Ali Chattha and took him to an unknown place.

However, the Election Commission of Pakistan has denied allegations made by Rawalpindi Commissioner. They emphasized that no division’s commissioner is a returning officer, district-returning officer, or presiding officer and they have no active role in Election activity.

The Rawalpindi division includes the districts of Attock, Murree, Rawalpindi, Jhelum, and Chakwal. Meanwhile, PTI leader Barrister Gohar urged an immediate inquiry into the charges made by Rawalpindi Commissioner Liaquat Ali Chatta.

Barrister Gohar stated that the confession of the Commissioner had serious consequences. He also urged to reveal the beneficiaries of these rigged elections.

Gohar also said his party believes the electoral body should recruit returning and district returning officers from inside the judiciary. He also demanded to declare elections in the Rawalpindi division null and illegitimate.
