Punjabi tourist burned to death by mob in Swat over blasphemy allegations
A Punjabi tourist from Sialkot was burned to death as a mob set him alive on fire over allegations of blasphemy in Swat. According to clips circulated on social media, the victim’s body was burned and dragged by the mob.
Before this tragic incident, Madyan police caught the victim and took him into custody for blasphemy accusations. After that, the mob invaded Madyan police station forcibly, dragged the man outside, and beat him with batons.
In the horrifying footage, numerous men suffered injuries as protestors set fire to a Madyan police station. According to initial reports, there was also a clash between protestors and police in Swat. This clash became intense when police shot gunfire and as a result, some people suffered injuries.
Social media users are sharing videos of protests and the police station burning. Madyan police seemed desperately to disperse a sizeable crowd of protestors.
The Punjabi tourist whom the mob burned to death had accusations of ruining the Holy Quran on June 20, 2024 night. Hence, police arrested the accused man to protect him from mob killing.
Dr. Zahiduallah, the DPO for Swat, informed the media that this incident resulted in eight other injuries. According to Swat DPO, people set fire to the police station, and police vehicle, and burned a man alive.
Local people claim that some people announced at the market that the victim man committed blasphemy. After that, they followed him and handed him over to the police.
However, mosques in Madyan started issuing statements against the accused, which angered the locals and led them to the police station. Madyan is a popular tourist area in Swat.
Witnesses claim that after police refused to turn over the suspect to the mob, they pushed their way into the police station. As a result, the condemnable incident happened. It is significant to note that authorities have not revealed the tourist’s identity.
Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Ali Amin Gandapur has taken notice of this incident. He also ordered subordinates to submit a complete report on this incident.
