The Punjab Government has decided to launch Chromebook production and free Google IDs to government school students. This initiative came as part of the Wheels project after international organizations like Allied and Google agreed to cooperate with the Punjab government.
The government will also build Digital Schools under this initiative in collaboration with tech delegation. It all came to light when Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz met with a delegation from Allied, Tech Valley, and Google for Education.
This meeting happened yesterday in which Maryam Nawaz made significant decisions. Wheels Project will soon launch digital schools in Punjab following these decisions.
Around 50,000 government school students in Punjab will gain free Google IDs and digital certification under this project. However, 1,000 government school teachers will obtain free digital certification courses.
Moreover, Punjab will launch Chromebook production in partnership with Australian firm Allied. On the other hand, Google for Education will fund a $1.5 million certification project for 15,000 university students.
Students will access their studies using their Google IDs without downloading any apps from the Google Play store. The amount of data used on Chromebooks will be tracked.
Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat provided a briefing on this project during the meeting. He stated that university students will obtain certifications in artificial intelligence, antiviral software, and other sectors.

The tech delegation and the Punjab government agreed to obtain technical support from Google for Education to get authentic data on out-of-school children. It will also help provide accurate data on children- who are not in school.
Hence, the Punjab government will expand the circle of education to all underprivileged children who don’t have access to education.
