Former Indian cricketer VVS (Vangipurapu Venkata Sai) Laxman declined reportedly to continue as National Cricket Academy (NCA) chief at the end of his contract. Earlier, he also rejected the offer of head coach for the Indian Team.

VVX became part of NCA in December 2021. Now he decided to terminate his position as NCA chief after serving for three years. He worked with the India under-19 Cricket Team and India A teams during his tenure of three years.

He also served as interim coach of the national Indian cricket team when its head coach, Rahul Dravid, temporarily took a break. However, there were expectations that he would join Team India as head coach; but he also put down this offer.

There were several Indian reports that VVS would take over as head coach of Team India once the contract of Rahul ends. This was probably because VVS wanted to become head coach for the Indian Cricket Team in 2021. But Cricket Management appointed him chairman of NCA.

Some sources claim that VVS Laxman will most likely make his return to the commentary box as his contract ends as NCA chief. He has also served as a cricket commentator.

Some sources also claim that VVS could return to Indian Premier League (IPL) upon his contract completion. Before joining the NCA chairmanship, he was a mentor of the IPL team “Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) from 2013 to 2021.

His contract will end in the latter part of 2024. So, cricket management reportedly approached VVS Laxman to continue as National Cricket Academy (NCA) chief but he declined.

Following that, the Indian cricket team is about to undergo significant changes soon. It will likely appoint the new chairman of NCA and head coach.
