Punjab Solar Scheme: How to apply online and all other details

Chief Minister of Punjab, Maryam Nawaz Sharif, announced the distribution of 50,000 solar panels under the “Roshan Gharana” scheme. This scheme comes following the global move towards renewable energy.

The scheme is expected to cost Rs. 10 billion. The Punjab government would fully fund this scheme to lower electricity bills and free electricity for low-consumption homes.

  • The government will pay all costs, including the price of the solar systems and their installation. Households that consume up to 100-200 power units per month are eligible for the free solar systems under the program.
  • However, electricity consumers up to 200-500 units can avail of Interest-free loans for solar panel installation. The Punjab government will bear 90 percent cost while consumers will pay 10 percent.
  • On the other hand, electricity consumers for more than 500 units will gain 75% off the interest-free loan for solar panel installation. Hence, consumers will pay the remaining 25% charges.

Households involved in power theft, meter tampering, or any other fraudulent activity will not be allowed to participate in the program to maintain transparency and fairness.
