Punjab Government set wheat price at Rs 3,900 per 40K

The government of Punjab has set the wheat price at Rs 3,900 per 40 kg under the leadership of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz. The price was decided during a 5th Punjab cabinet meeting.

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz said she promised to protect the interests of small farmers at all costs. Hence, the Punjab government set the lowest price of wheat at Rs 3,900 per 40 kg for 2023–2024. It also approved the policy for buying wheat in 2024–25.

The new wheat price is the same as 2022–2023. However, the price of wheat was greater than the control price the previous year. This is because the Pakistani government did not have any influence over the price of wheat.

Apart from wheat development, the cabinet also agreed to set up special courts in Punjab that would handle cases quickly. The cases involved rape, child abuse, domestic violence, and theft of power.

The Chief Secretary, the IG Police, provincial ministers, and other high officials informed the CM on the issue at the meeting. The attorney general for Punjab told the cabinet about the plans to change the defamation law and set up special trial courts.

He said that the process had to be finished in 90 days. The hearing had to happen in 180 days in a defamation case. Defamation notices will be sent through major newspapers, social media, a courier service, and registered mail to avoid complaints of not getting them or being sent too late.

The attorney general told the cabinet that this change would be brought up soon in the Punjab Assembly. The CM said that people should stop making false charges.

The cabinet also agreed to form a standing committee for legal issues. In addition, amendments to the Alternative Dispute Resolution Act, of 2019.
