Pakistan govt massively reduced wheat and electricity prices for AJK
The Federal Govt of Pakistan massively reduced wheat and electricity prices for the people of Azad Kashmir (AJK). The federal and AJK government have released a huge relief package to fulfill the urgent needs of the AJK people.
Hence, prices of necessary goods and utilities will decrease significantly as part of the PKR 23 billion relief package. One of the significant parts of this package is that govt. has reduced the 40 kg flour price from PKR 31,00 to PKR 11,00.
Hence, the AJK people can now buy 20 kg of wheat flour for PKR 1000 and 40 kg flour bag for PKR 2000. It will greatly help families struggling with the financial crisis.
In response to these steps, the Azad Jammu and Kashmir Energy Department announced reducing electricity costs for homes and businesses. The electricity price for a home starts at PKR 3 per kilowatt hour for up to 100 units and goes up to PKR 5 for 100 to 300 units.
However, it will cost PKR 6 for electricity consumption of over 300 units. The rates will also go down for business users as it will cost PKR 10 per unit for up to 300 units. It will cost PKR 15 per unit for use over 300 units.
In response to another significant demand of AAC, govt has established a judicial committee. The commute will review the privileges of top government officials in Azad Kashmir.
AAC refers to the Awami Action Committee, which organized a massive protest in AJK against high electricity costs and inflation.
Pakistan govt massively reduced wheat and electricity prices following the protest movement of AAC, which began on May 10, 2024. However, the protest turned into violent clashes between security forces and protestors for the past two days.
The violent protest took the lives of one police officer and three protestors, with dozens of injured. Hence, following the sensitivity of the matter, the Pakistani govt immediately released a high relief package for AJK people.
