Nadra suspended 8 officers in massive data leakage of Pakistanis
The National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra) has suspended 8 officers after data leakage of millions of Pakistanis. Nadra has launched disciplinary actions against several staff officers to suspend and charge them.
According to the media reports, more than a dozen officers are likely to face penalties and action has begun against Nadra employees including three senior management personnel. It includes three members of Nadra’s high management general (DG) technical, DG network Karachi, and others.
A Nadra representative acknowledged the disciplinary action and that they charged and suspended 8 officers. He stated they implement in response to recommendations of a joint inquiry investigation (JIT) team.
However, he did not release the names of the targeted individuals due to data privacy concerns and ongoing court processes.
It came after JIT revealed a report which stated facts that the personal data of 2.7 million Pakistanis have leaked between 2019 and 2023. The JIT revealed the issue in a report provided to the Ministry of Interior.
Syed Waqaruddin is a Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) official who led the JIT. JIT also included officials from sensitive agencies and Nadra nominees.
According to media sources, the body has completed investigations into the massive scandal of an alleged breach of Nadra’s database. Officials at the Interiors Ministry are evaluating the report generated by JIT.

JIT report mentioned that data theft occurred at Nadra’s officers in Multan, Karachi, and Peshawar. It also urged action against the authority’s main top officials, whose negligee resulted in massive data leakage.
The leaked data was allegedly transferred from Multan via Peshawar before arriving in Dubai. Moreover, the JIT report also claimed they have evidence of selling leaked data in Argentina and Romania.
The government of Pakistan established the JIT following a cyber security incident in March 2023. However, the issue of Nadra’s data leakage gained media attention due to the leaked personal information of military people.
