Karachi RJ shopping mall fire killed several people
Today extreme fire has erupted at Karachi RJ shopping mall which has killed several people and left many injured. The sad incident took place Saturday morning near the Dalmia area on Rashid Minhas Road.
Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab said the KMC (Karachi Metropolitan Corporation) Fire Department has confirmed the casualties of nine people. They transferred seven bodies to Jinnah Hospital while the other two bodies to Civil and Abassi Shaheed Hospitals. He stated the search process continues.
Officials stated that the deaths were caused by suffocation and burning while some of those injured fell from stairs during the evacuation and others suffered burn injuries.
According to a recent tweet from Karachi Mayor, the fire department has managed to extinguish the outbursted fire and the cooling process is underway. He has so far confirmed the ten casualties and twenty-two injured people.
Fire crew proceedings on the incident
The fire crew found seven people unconscious due to suffocation and they were in critical condition. Everyone who was hurt or unconscious was taken to the hospital.
According to some media reports, at least 30 people escaped the building on their own while many others remained inside. Jinnah Hospital officials stated they received ten injured people and three of them had critical injuries.
The fire started on the second floor of the mall at 6:30 a.m. and quickly spread to the fourth, fifth, and sixth floors. These floors included various shops and offices. However, authorities have yet to identify the cause of the fire.

Salman who was 32-year-old identified as one of the deceased admitted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital. One injured is 14-year-old Atif who is in the Civil Hospital.
The fire extinguishing task took at least four hours and involved eight fire engines, two snorkels, and a bowser. After extinguishing the flames, authorities launched a cooling and rescue operation.
Interim Sindh Minister Maqbool Baqar has taken notice of the fire and directed the Karachi commissioner to rescue the people trapped inside the mall.
