Imran Khan canceled Islamabad rally over fear of nationwide chaos

Former Prime Minister Imran Khan canceled the Islamabad rally over fear of expected nationwide chaos. He has cleared that he had not discussed the rally with the government.

Imran insisted he received information that the Islamabad rally could lead to nationwide chaos. It ultimately led him to cancel it. However, he stated that the rally at Taronol Chowk in Islamabad would now happen on September 8, 2024.

PTI leader Imran Khan revealed Islamabad rally, which was originally scheduled to address the Khatm-e-Nabuwaat issue, was canceled because he received warnings that it may worsen tensions.

He stated it in an informal interview with journalists at Adiala Jail where he is serving imprisonment. He explained he received information that Khatm-e-Nabuwaat is a sensitive matter with religious groups already protesting in Islamabad.

Hence, he opted to postpone the rally fearing unrest in the country. He emphasized that if they had proceeded with the rally, there was a risk of a repeat of the May 9 riots. A previous judicial inquiry into May 9 has not been conducted yet.

However, Imran Khan warned the government if it granted permission. But later, it attempted to stop the rally, government would be fully responsible for its actions.

Imran also stated it is a matter of judicial credibility whether the court permits them or the administration to cancel the rally. Moreover, he had given party orders to accept no difficulties in case of state acts to disorganize the rally.

He emphasized this was the final postponement of the Islamabad rally. He continued by saying party leadership had received instruction to meet before September 8 to schedule a rally. If anybody tried to stop their party, they would not step back this time.

When journalists questioned him about the trial of former ISI chief General (retd) Faiz Hameed, he demanded an open trial. He said he is head of Pakistan’s largest political party and he is calling for an open trial.

This is because they are making a serious accusation against General Faiz and him for their involvement in the May 9, 2024 riots.
