Imran Khan refused to answer questions to Lahore Police on May 9 riots
Former Prime Minister Imran Khan refused to answer questions from the investigative team of Lahore Police on the May 9 riots at Adiala Jail. The Lahore Police team went to Adiala Jail on July 22, 2024, to interrogate Imran.
They had to interrogate Imran in 12 cases against him about the May 9 riots. According to media sources, a 12-person Lahore police team under the commandship of Superintendent of Police (SP) Rana Zahid arrived at Adiala jail. Imran is presently serving imprisonment in connection with several cases.
Following the arrival of the Lahore team, Imran was supposed to appear before the investigating team to take a polygraph test, but he did not. The polygraph test is a lie detector test that measures a person’s psychological responses to questions.
However, Imran Khan reportedly refused to answer questions from the Lahore Police team. He did not help the police team with the investigation and polygraph test while stating that he would not respond to any questions without the presence of his lawyers.
The forensic specialists were also part of the investigative team. They left without asking Imran Khan any questions following his refusal.
Media sources reported that the police team asked Imran Khan to come for a polygraph test through several messages. However, he denied them in the absence of his lawyers.
On the other hand, the Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) placed him on a 10-day physical remand. This remand is in connection with 12 cases involving the May 9 riots on July 15, 2024. The prosecutor used a video link to present Imran instead of an in-person appearance before ATC.
ATC Judge Khalid Arshad questioned why the prosecutor could not present the accused in person before the court. The federal prosecutor replied they could not present Imran in ATC due to security concerns.
However, the May 9 riots date back to 2023 when the arrest of Imran Khan in the Al-Qadir trust case caused widespread protests in Pakistan. It turned into violent protests and riots in some places against the Army and government.
