Famous Writer Khalil ur Rehman kidnapped and tortured in Lahore
Famous Pakistani Writer and Dramatist Khalil ur Rehman Qamar was kidnapped, tortured, and looted in Lahore. The victim writer Khalil reported it in FIR at Sunder police station on July 20, 2024, when he returned home.
However, this incident happened on the night of July 15, 2024. Khalil ur Rehman mentioned in FIR that he received a call from a woman, Amna. She invited him to her house to talk about a possible drama project.
When the famous writer reached the specified address, armed men kidnapped Khalil ur Rehman and took him hostage while robbing him of his items. The victim revealed kidnappers threatened to kill him to get payment from his relatives.
According to Khalil, kidnappers also tortured him and shifted him to other places. They stole his watch, cash, and cell phone during the encounter. They also took PKR 267,000 from his ATM card using force.
After several hours of torture, kidnappers blindfolded Khalil, left him in a distant area, and then escaped the place. Following a complaint from Khalil, Sunder Police registered an FIR under provisions of kidnapping and assault sections.
The police have also opened an investigation against offenders. Deputy Inspector General Imran Kishwar claimed to arrest a group containing 12 suspects who demanded one crore rupees from Khalil through a honey trap operation.
The suspects reportedly took Khalil to Nankana Sahib and asked him repeatedly for mentioned payment. Police have also recovered pistols, wireless sets, and rifles from arrested suspects.
According to police, woman Amna Arooj and four others allegedly honey-trapped Khalil. Amna is a resident of Gujranwala who used to trap high-profile people and blackmail them for money.
In the case of Khalil, Amna confessed to trapping him as she was in constant contact with the writer for 10-15 days while chatting on the phone and exchanging photos.
Afterward, she invited Khalil to her house which led to his kidnapping, torture, and looting incident. However, Punjab police are investigating this matter from various angles based on Amna’s statement.
Khalil ur Rehman Qamar is well-renowned for his incredible scriptwriting for dramas, including Pyarey Afzal, Sadqay Tumahre, Meray Paas Tum Ho, etc.

He is also famous for his poetry, some of which are also part of several OST of Pakistani dramas. His most popular lyrics were part of Meray Paas Tum Ho OST.
Khalil’s career has not been without controversy over several decades. His open perspectives and public disagreements, most popularly with activist Marvi Sirmed received widespread both criticism and appreciation.
Apart from his bold stances, he proved himself a prominent character in Pakistani cinema and television with a devoted fan base, that appreciates his work.
