Customs seized 4700 hazardous cows’ hormone injections during raid
The Anti-Smuggling Squad of Customs Enforcement seized 4700 hazardous cows’ hormone injections during a raid at Gadap town, Karachi. They carried out major actions that led to the recovery of massive amounts of illegal goods.
Custom officials broke into a building in Gadap town and seized 4,700 hazardous injections of 16 million worth. They revealed that these injections are given to cows to increase their milk production by boosting their hormones.

However, these milk-producing injections are illegal and criminal practice to use. The milk-boosting hormonal injections in cows, such as bovine somatotropin (BST) can lead to several side effects and compromise the health of milk-producing animals.
These injections can infect the bovine mammary gland udder of a cow. It requires antibiotic treatment, which affects the normal body functioning of cows. It also causes lameness, reproductive issues, and stress in cows.
Moreover, these injections also affect people’s health as they consume cow’s milk produced by artificially injected hormones instead of natural production. They cause several diseases in humans such as kidney failure, flue, obesity, high cholesterol, and hair loss. It also results in early maturity in children.
The Pakistani government has imposed a strict ban on importing these injections. Hence, customs department officials not only seized all 4700 hazardous cows’ hormone injections but also arrested people responsible for them. They have registered a case against them under the Customs Act.

In a separate incident, customs officials seized 13,000 milk-boosting hormones just two weeks before in May 2024. They seized illegal injections during a raid following a tip-off at Regent Plaza Hotel, Sharea Faisal, Karachi.
According to customs officials, there is an organized network that smuggles these banned injections and then supplies them to different parts of the country. They have established various locations throughout Pakistan to operate their illegal and criminal activity.
Following that, an anti-smuggling squad of customs became active and conducted massive raids to prevent culprits from distributing illegal milk-boosting injections.
