Indians demand to boycott Junaid Khan’s Netflix film Maharaj

Several Indians demand a boycott of Aamir Khan’s son, Junaid Khan’s Netflix film “Maharaj (2024), just before its release. It will hit cinemas tomorrow June 14, 2024.

Hashtags “Aamir Khan”, “Boycott Netflix”, and “Ban Maharaj Film” are in top trending in India on Twitter X this time. These boycott trends come after the filmmakers of “Maharaj” claimed the film is based on the Maharaj Libel Case of 1862.

This case took place in pre-independence India. The Libel Case referred to a real-based trial of a religious leader in the Bombay Court in British India. This case was against Nanabhai Rustomji Ranina, a religious leader.

A journalist and reformer, Karsandas Mulji, claimed in the case that religious leaders of Pushtimarg inclusion Karsandas had sexual relationships with female devotees.

Karsandas won this trial by exposing the sexual misconduct of Nanabhai in this libel case. The court found religious leaders (Maharajs) immoral. Junaid Khan portrayed the role of Karsandas, while Jaideep Ahlawat played the role of Nanabhai.

Following that, Indians demand a boycott of Junaid Khan’s Netflix film “Maharaj,” considering it as an anti-Hindu film. They believe this film will hurt the religious sentiments of Hindus by portraying their saints as lustful and immoral.

Some netizens are also criticizing Bollywood star Aamir Khan, claiming he has hurt the sentiments of Hindus once again. First, he starred in the anti-Hindu movie PK (2014). Now, he launched his son, Junaid to hurt Hindu sentiments.

One netizen also urged the Indian government to take action against such acts and films. He also questioned the integrity of the Indian government when it comes to such matters.

Siddarth P. Malhotra directed Maharaj while Aditya Chopra under YRF Entertainment, produced this film. However, the film team has not made any promotions for this film. They have not released a teaser or trailer except a poster featuring Jaideep and Junaid.
