CM Maryam Nawaz provides free WiFi at 50 active hotspots in Lahore
Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Maryam Nawaz provides free WiFi services at 50 notable active hotspots in Lahore. CM Maryam launched this service to improve internet access and encourage connection for the general public.
This service gives everyone easy access to the internet and is a big steel toward digital independence. CM Maryam Nawaz expressed her pleasure in announcing this service of free WiFi implementation at the 50 selected spots in Lahore.
She showed her commitment to keeping her word providing free WiFi at 50 different places in Lahore. She also expressed her gratitude and said they deliver what they promise. The remaining parts of Lahore are still in effect to benefit from this program.
It came during last month’s high-level meeting of Maryam Nawaz and representatives from the Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB). They decided to start the free WiFi pilot project.
Maryam assigned PITB the task of renovating the current infrastructure. It includes hotspots to enable smooth delivery to the general public across Lahore. She directed PITB to prioritize the installation of free WiFi in bus stops, airports, train stations, and educational facilities.
However, CM Maryam Nawaz provides free WiFi called”CM Maryam Nawaz Free WiFi” at 50 hotspots in Lahore including Hussain Chowk, MM Alam Road, Kotha Pind Stop, and Shadman Road. Other areas include hospitals, educational institutions, parks, and public places.
This program is expected to improve households’ internet accessibility to a greater extent by benefitting 516 areas throughout Lahore. Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) government introduced its first free WiFi services in 2013 which Maryam Nawaz has now significantly revived.
However, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government terminated the services since the internet providers had not paid bills.
The Punjab Information Technology (PITB) has taken over control of the WiFi services. The Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL) previously had the authority over WiFi services. Hence, the shift from PTCL to PITB is to ensure effective management and operation.
