Avicenna College under fire for verbal abuse and suicide allegations

Avicenna Medical College comes under fire for the alleged verbal abuse, torture, and death of student Mahnoor Nadeem at the hands of chairman Abdul Waheed Sheikh.

Horrifying stories are coming to light from college students and getting viral on the internet. Abdul Waheed Sheikh is allegedly known for shaving students’ heads, tearing up their shirts, and imposing heavy fines of a minimum of 60,000 PKR.

The matter escalated when Instagram handled the newspaper. pk described the mistreatment of students by Abdul Waheed Sheikh. It captioned a slider with the title “Avicenna Takes Another Life: Student Found Dead.”

Newspaper. pk claimed the chairman and his daughters, who hold administrative roles are financially and psychologically exploiting the students. Students face severe penalties with heavy fines of up to PKR 60,000. Moreover, they have no permission to take any absent leaves.

The Instagram handler also revealed the tragic death of female student Mahnoor Nadeem. The mother of the deceased student said Mahnoor was extremely anxious in her final days. The college administration punished her forcibly sitting on the floor for four hours. Despite the fact, she was a bright student.

According to Mahnoor’s mother, the college administration fined her 92,000 rupees last year. Recently, Mahnoor went to take a leave of absence the day before she died because she was not feeling well.

However, college management turned down her request. Ultimately, she died due to heart failure due to an extraordinarily pressurized environment.

Students of Avicenna College also held a protest yesterday in the aftermath of Mahnoor’s death and against an abusive and toxic administration.

The students claimed the college administration also used to take off female student’s burqas, cutting students’ hair and abusing them verbally and physically.

Meanwhile, PMDC (Pakistan Medical and Dental Council) has taken notice of Mahnoor’s death due to the alleged misconduct and behavior of Avicenna Medical College. They have initiated a thorough investigation of this.

Newspaper. pk also shared another event of Abdul Waheed harshly abusing a student calling him a “motherfucker” for his incorrect name entry in documents. However, the student was apologizing.

Abdul Waheed allegedly tore apart a student’s shirt simply for not being buttoned incorrectly. Moreover, college female students (who don’t wear dupatta) face harassment and character assassination.

Newspaper. pk also mentioned chairman Abdul Waheed once said to students for leave; your father is alive, isn’t he? When he passes away, request a leave of absence. Moreover, his daughters Shandana Sheikh and Fazilda Sheikh also financially exploit the students.
