UK Prosecutors dropped sexual assault charges against Harvey Weinstein

UK Prosecutors dropped two charges of sexual assault against former American producer Harvey Weinstein. They decided to drop these charges after reviewing evidence in the case.

They concluded that there is no longer a realistic prospect of conviction. This legal action proceeding came after authorities charged Harvey with two counts of sexual assault against a woman in London for alleged offenses in 1996.

Prosecutors from the UK government agency Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) dropped sexual assault charges against Harvey Weinstein. Frank Ferguson is head of the special crime and counter-terrorism division at CPS.

Frank stated they had a duty to review criminal cases continuously. Following this, they have explained their decision to all relevant parties.

He emphasized that they would always encourage any potential sexual assault victims to approach them and report to them. They will surely take action in sexual assault cases whenever they fulfill their legal test.

It is significant to note that Harvey is already serving a prison sentence in the US following a sexual assault charge in Los Angeles in 2020.

He received 23 years imprisonment after the court found him guilty of committing a first-degree criminal sexual act against production assistant Miriam Haley in 2006 and third-degree rape of actress Jessica Mann in 2013.

Harvey is serving imprisonment for these charges in the notorious Rikers Island jail, the largest prison in New York. He suffered from pneumonia and Covid-19 during his imprisonment in jail.

The charges and allegations led him to his dismissal from his CBE honor award in 2020. Harvey, 72-year-old received this award for his contribution to the British film industry.
