Purab Kohli shared difficult experience of quitting tobacco addiction

Indian actor Purab Kohli reportedly shared his difficult experience of giving up his tobacco addiction on World No Tobacco Day. According to mainstream Indian media outlet Hindustan Times, Purab said he began smoking at a very young age.


Purab was in his 15s or 16s. He has always known that smoking is harmful. He also heard some horrifying stories, so he knew that he was doing the wrong thing. At the same time, smoking was a male activity that was attractive.


However, he only started smoking to feel cool. But he decided to give up this unhealthy habit, while he was in his late 20s. He considered himself to be ready to give up smoking since it had been ten years since he had started.


Purab said he could tell he would work extra hard when he was under stress during work. He wanted to try giving it up to see if he could truly do it at some point. He asked himself, “Can he give up smoking for a year when he has been a smoker for ten or twelve years?


The actor revealed that he even wrote the date on it. It helped him stay motivated as well. He is strong in sticking to his decisions once he makes them.


Then, he simply said to himself one morning that he had to stop smoking. He did manage to give up smoking, but it was not easy. He used to carry his single cigarette around and never light it.


His craving gradually vanished when he would hold a cigarette in his hand and puff away without lighting it. Every time he walked past the stores where he used to get it, he would get the need to smoke.

Hence, Purab abandoned smoking for three to four years. But in his early 30s, he resumed smoking. However, he understood the benefits of quitting smoking and gave up his addiction permanently.


He explained that once you complete the initial six to seven months, giving up this addiction becomes easy, and you start feeling better. Since then, he has not smoked for over 13-14 years.
