Spanish badminton player Carolina Marin beat world number two player Pusarla Venkata (PV) Sindhu in Singapore Open 2024. It was a thrilling three-game series of women’s singles pre-quarterfinal matches.

PV Sindhu is a double Olympic medalist who faced her chief rival Carolina, for the first time in seven months after their fierce game at the Denmark Open.

However, Carolina is only one number behind PV Sindh in rankings at third number in the world badminton championship. PV made a good start in the Singapore Open after defeating Danish player Line Kjaersfeldt by 21-12, 22-20.

Hence, Two-time Olympian champion PV Sindh dominated the first game against Carolina until a powerful comeback from her opponent. She made five consecutive points in the opening round while giving a tough time to Carolina. PV was ahead 15-10 in the first-round series.

However, Carolina made a strong comeback in a blowout second series round, winning six straight points. Hence, she took the lead by 17-7 against PV Sindhu.

Following it, Carolina Marin beat PV Sindhu by an 18-15 lead in the final round. Overall, she won by 21-13, 11-21, and 20-22 match set series in a one-hour and eight-minute battle of the BWF World Tour Super 750 meet. BWF refers to the Badminton World Federation.

However, the Spanish player beat PV consecutively in games held in 2019-2021 and 2020-2022. She has defeated PV in the World Championships, the Indonesian Masters, the Malaysia Open, and the Denmark Open during this period.

PV Sindhu will also compete in the 2024 Paris Olympics. It will begin on July 26, 2024. She is the only Indian woman to have won back-to-back medals at an Olympic event.
