American actress Barbara Bush, famous for her 1950s film, It Came from Outer Space, has died at the age of 97. The daughter of famous American actress Barbara Bush, Claudia Cowan, confirmed her mother died on March 31, 2024.

Barbara was born in Denver in 1927 and raised in Los Angeles. She signed with Paramount Pictures after studying drama at the University of California, Santa Barbara.

Her breakthrough performance came in 1951 in the Oscar-winning science fiction film “When Worlds Collide.” She played the role of the daughter of an astronomer trying to warn humanity that a devil star was going to destroy Earth.

She appeared in another scientific horror film “It Came from Outer Space” two years later in 1953. This film was based on worries of a nuclear war and a communist invasion.

In this movie, Barabara plays a schoolteacher role who finds a rock that turns out to be an alien spaceship with her boyfriend (Richard Carlson).

Unlike previous scary movies of the era, the aliens prove to be essentially harmless even though they replicate the bodies of local townspeople. Barbara Rush also received a Golden Globe as the Most Promising Female Newcomer for her performance in this movie.

She made guest appearances in television series such as portraying the role of feminist villain Nora Clavicle in Batman. She also performed a prominent role in the long-running serial Peyton Place. Her role was the mother of a rebellious teenager, Carolyn Russell whose marriage is collapsing.
