One of Mexico’s most celebrated actors and Coco star Ana Ofelia Murgua died on Sunday. Her voice acting as Mama Coco in the animated film “Coco” gained her fame worldwide. She was 90 years old.
The Mexican actress won two Academy Awards in 2018 for Most Original Song and Best Animated Feature. Mexico’s National Institute of Fine Arts and Literature revealed the news of her death.

Meanwhile, Coco follows the story of Miguel (Anthony Gonzalez), an aspiring singer who must overcome his family’s anti-music beliefs. On the Day of the Dead, he travels to the Land of the Dead and meets his ancestor, a great singer.
In the end, Coco performs the Oscar-winning song Remember Me alongside Miguel in commemoration of her father. In 2018, Coco also got a nomination for an Academy Award for best-animated feature.
Ana Ofelia was born in Mexico in 1933 and worked in film and television for nearly 40 years throughout the golden age of Mexican cinema. In 2011, she received an award of Golden Ariel Lifetime Achievement Award.
She also received the best supporting actress at the Ariel Awards in 1979, 1986, and 1996. Her most well-known films include The Queen of the Night (1994) and Nobody Will Speak of Us When We’re Dead (1995). Her fans across the world mourned Coco star Ana Ofelia as she died. However, the cause of her death is unclear.
