American actor James Sikking died at 90

American actor James Sikking, famous for the television series Hill Street Blues and Doogie Howser, died at 90. His publicist, Cynthia Synder, confirmed the news of his death.

According to Cynthia, the late actor passed away on July 14, 2024 evening. He was born in Los Angeles on March 15, 1934. He was the youngest of five children.

His early acting roles included a minor part in a Perry Mason episode and an uncredited cameo in Roger Corman’s Five Guns West. Moreover, he was able to perform guest roles in a long list of well-known television shows from the 1970s, including Little House on the Prairie and M.A.S.H.

Others include The F.B.I., The Rockford Files, Hawaii Five-O, Charlie’s Angels, and the suspenseful Mission: Impossible. However, he became famous with his role in Hill Street Blues in 1981.

It was a classic police procedural series in which James portrayed the character of Lt. Howard Hunter, a polished veteran of the Vietnam War who supervised the Metropolitan Police Department’s Emergency Action Team in an undisclosed city.

Hill Street Blues became a highly praised series with James’s character who usually used his stiffness and unconventional behavior for comedy effect.

He also drew inspiration for his incredible performance from a drill instructor he had at basic military training after his tenure at the University of California, Los Angeles. He graduated from there in 1959.

James was nominated for an Emmy Award in the drama category for outstanding supporting actor for Hill Street Blues. Apart from this, he is well-known for his roles in Doogie Howser, M.D. (1989), Narrow Margin (1990), and Doing Time on Maple Drive (1992).

Others include Nowhere to Land (2000), Outland (1981), Final Approach (1991), Dare to Love (1995), and The Star Chamber (1983). However, his remarkable era came to an end with his death.

Publicist Cynthia also revealed that American actor James Sikking died from complications of dementia. However, other details regarding his death are unknown.
