PCB posted advertisement for head coach for Men’s Cricket Team

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) posted an advertisement today seeking separate bids for the national team head coach. PCB is looking for separate head coaches for red (three-day matches) and white ball (ODIs and T20Is) formats.

According to a press release from PCB, they are looking for energetic individuals who will provide cooperative coaching support to our national team in several formats.

Applications can be submitted until 5 p.m. on April 15. PCB is searching for people with at least a Level III Cricket Coaching Certificate for these positions. And at least five years of experience coaching international and domestic teams.

The development comes as the key position of head coach, along with others, became vacant after Mickey Arthur, Grant Bradburn, and Andrew Puttick left. They moved to the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Lahore due to a change in their responsibilities in November 2023.

PCB posted an advertisement for a head coach after approaching several former cricketers. It includes former West Indies captain Darren Sammy, Australia’s Shane Watson, and New Zealand’s Luke Ronchi.

Darren is the head coach of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) franchise Peshawar Zalmi. He declined the PCB’s offer due to his existing contract with the West Indies board, where he serves as the team’s head coach in one-day internationals (ODIs) and T20Is.

Before that, the PCB’s attempt to persuade Shane also failed. He rejected this offer following a media leak about the board’s proposed package.

He also stated his desire to fulfill his existing coaching and commentary responsibilities. It includes an Indian Premier League (IPL) commentary assignment and his role as head coach of Major League Cricket’s San Francisco Unicorns.

Following the setback, the PCB approached Luke Ronchi for the Green Shirts’ head coach position. The former Kiwi cricketer has asked for extra time to consider coaching the Men in Green. Meanwhile, PCB considered South Africa’s Gary Kirsten and Australia’s Justice Langer for this position.
