Sher Afzal Marwat house raided allegedly by Islamabad police
PTI politician and Supreme Court lawyer Sher Afzal Marwat claims that Islamabad police raided his house at 2:00 a.m. He disclosed it before the Islamabad High Court during his petition’s hearing on the recovery of Baloch students.
Islamabad High Court Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani expressed surprise that it was happening to Marwat, an elected member of parliament and senior lawyer. He wondered what would happen to the common citizen in Balochistan if the same treatment had been dealt to an elected member of the federal capital.
Marwat claimed in a tweet that CTD (Counter Terrorism Department) police raided his house and shattered the doors, causing damage. They caused stress for his family and staff. They also seized his laptop.
However, he managed to escape from his home. He is now in a secure location. This is an illegal raid. He claims to take the IG and SSP operation Islamabad to court for this criminal crime. This includes the seizure of his laptop, which contains his personal and professional information, which they may misuse.
Furthermore, Marwat said these cowardly methods will not stop or force him to abandon their objective, which is for a great cause- the battle for true democracy in Pakistan.
However, Islamabad Police rejected the claim of Sher Afzal Marwat that they raided his house at midnight. They also said people are spreading fake news to draw public attention.
Meanwhile, the IHC justice Mohsin stated that if the inspector general of police’s attitude was not corrected, he should be replaced. He also questioned why police conducted a raid at night on the home of someone available during the day.
The IHC also asked the home secretary to contact the Islamabad IG and CTD to obtain a written statement from them on this matter. Justice Mohsin remarked that the entire system, including judges, is aware, of what is ongoing in Pakistan. However, no one is saying anything. He emphasized who will protect citizens from thieves and robbers if state institutions do this.
Furthermore, Justice Mohsin stated that such treatment of an elected MNA and Supreme Court lawyer is disgusting. Marwat asked the court to order the detention of Islamabad IG for ten days to make things right.
