Winter Blast Alert with rain and snowfall forecast across Pakistan
The Meteorological Department of Pakistan (PMD) has issued a winter blast alert bringing heavy rainfall and snowfall across various regions of Pakistan. The PMD alert has issued this winter blast alert from Jan 31, 2024, to Feb 4, 2024.
According to the meteorological scenario, a westerly wave is hitting western and higher regions in Pakistan. It is expected to remain over the upper parts for the next few days with heavy rainfall and snowfall. The PDM predicted extreme cold weather in several parts of the country. The top areas of Pakistan will remain cloudy.
Temperatures ranged dramatically during the last 24 hours with Kalam and Islamabad recorded minus seven degrees Celsius. However, Karachi is at eighteen degrees Celcius following the PMD alert.
According to PMD alerts, there is possible heavy rainfall and snowfall in Balochistan on Feb 2, 2024, and Feb 3, 2024. It also raises the risk of flood in regions of Balochistan.
Similarly, snowfall is forecast in Gilgit-Baltistan, Murree, and Galiat, with the possibility of landslides and road closures, especially in Galiyat and the northern regions.

In addition to Balochistan and northern districts, rainfall forecast is likely to happen in Sindh, Islamabad, the Potohar region, south and central Punjab, and Karachi. All relevant officials have advised to remain cautious and take the necessary measures to lessen the risk of weather calamity.
Significant temperature readings include minus five degrees Celcius in Skardu and negative three degrees Celcius in Rawalkot. Meanwhile, Islamabad and Lahore had recorded temperatures of seven and eight degrees Celcius, respectively. Karachi stayed warm at eighteen degrees Celcius. However, Quetta recorded eight degrees Celcius.
Residents and authorities should stay informed and take proper precautions to ensure safety. As well as to lessen potential dangers associated with the expected heavy rains and snowfall.
