Sindh government to launch first-ever EV taxis (Pink Electric Vehicles)

The government of Sindh has announced the launch of the first-ever electric vehicle (EV) taxis across the province. Sindh Minister for Information, Excise, Narcotics, and Transportation, Sharjeel Inam Memon revealed this news on his Twitter X.

He wrote the Transport Department of the Sindh Government would launch Pakistan’s first EV taxis and Pink EV taxis soon. This announcement comes when the main city of Sindh, Karachi is experiencing high levels of air pollution.

Air pollution in Karachi comes, due to an excessive number of cars with gasoline engines which is also insufficient mass public transportation system to meet the city’s needs.

It is significant to note that Sindh Minister Sharjeel unveiled a plan to launch EV taxis. However, he did not give a date when EV taxis would be available in the province.

If EV Taxis are launched, they might help clean the air while creating a sustainable pollution-free environment. They will also also give people another hopeful cheaper way to transport.

Hence, the launch of EV taxis is likely to not only deal with the issue of air pollution. But it will also potentially offer a different affordable transportation source.

The Sindh govt will soon start Pink EV Taxis in the province

Moreover, the skyrocketing cost of petrol has led to high fares charged by various online ride-handling apps and significant expenses for owners of private vehicles. So, the upcoming launch EV project will hopefully provide a less expensive transport option to the general citizens of Sindh.

As more nations try to move away from fossil fuels, Sindh’s initiative of electric vehicles aligns with the worldwide trend and shift towards environmentally friendly automobiles.

Apart from this initiative, Karachi received 30 hybrid and 50 electric buses from the ruling PPP government of Sindh earlier this year. It was part of the Peoples Bus Service fleet which increased the total number of buses to 300.
