ATC issued non-bailable arrest warrant against KP CM Ali Amin Gandapur

An Islamabad anti-terrorism court (ATC) issued a non-bailable arrest warrant against KP Chief Minister (CM) Ali Amin Gandapur. This warrant came following his accusations in two vandalism cases at Sangjani and 1-9 police stations in Islamabad.

PTI founder Imran Khan and several other party members are also among the accused in these vandalism cases. They violated Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) for their alleged involvement in vandalism cases.

Hence, the court also warned CM Ali Amin and other accused party members to declare them “absconders” for their refusal to appear in court.

ATC judge Tahir Abbas Supra conducted the hearing of these cases. PTI leaders Faisal Javed Khan, Ali Nawaz Khan, Awan Wasiq Qayyum, Aamer Kiani, and other suspects appeared in court today.

However, KP CM Ali Amin Gandapur filed an exemption request. Judge Tahir responded to this request, stating that it was not a good argument to claim that someone cannot appear in court because they are outside the city.

He questioned who was responsible for the failure to appear, the suspects or the court. He also clarified that no one’s request would be taken into consideration.

Afterward, ATC judge Tahir issued a non-bailable arrest warrant for all absent suspects, including KP CM Ali Amin Gandapur. Meanwhile, the suspect’s lawyers intervened that the accused personnel bear responsibility for failure to appear for the hearing.

They also requested the court give them another chance while promising all suspects would appear in the next hearing. Judge Tahir Abbas stated they would consider suspects “absconders” if they don’t appear in court on July 8, 2024, at this argument of lawyers.

Moreover, he emphasized these cases will only proceed if they include merit, if not, they will dismiss these cases. He also asked for a written response from the Adiala jail superintendent about the appearance of Imran Khan in the next hearing via video link.
