Four jailed for former MQM MNA Ali Raza Abidi's murder case

The court jailed four suspects for life in former Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) MNA Ali Raza Abidi’s murder case. Karachi anti-terrorism court has given a life sentence to all those suspects.

The court fined the four guilty persons PKR 100,000 while declaring life sentences for them. The court sentenced Abdul Haseeb, Abu Bakar, Muhammad Farooq, and Muhammad Ghazali under the Anti-terrorism Act.

Ali Raza was sent to PNS Shifa Hospital right away and medical staff declared him critically ill. However, he passed away due to critical injuries. The initial post-mortem report said that the dead MNA had four bullets in his neck, arm, and chest.

MQM chose Ali Raza Abidi as an MNA on the MQM ticket in the general elections in 2013. But in August 2016, after party leader Altaf Hussain delivered an anti-Pakistan speech over the phone to party members in Karachi, the party broke into two groups and he joined the Pakistan camp of the party.

However, Ali Raza Abidi announced his resignation from the National Assembly claiming political and personal reasons. He announced his departure from the MQM-P, a few days earlier, following the party’s electoral collaboration with the Pakistan Sarzameen Party (SSP).

Although he returned to the MQM-P in December 2017 and September 2018, he ultimately left the group. Afterward, he died when the court jailed four suspects for former MQM MNA Ali Raza Abidi’s murder case.

Ali Raza Abidi was born on July 6, 1972 in Karachi, Sindh, Pakistan. He remained part of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) from 2013 to 2018.

He ran for the seat of the National Assembly as a candidate of MQM Pakistan from Constituency NA-243 (Karachi East-II) in the 2018 Pakistani general election but failed to secure a seat.
