Shaheen Shah Afridi shared cryptic message after captaincy issue
Pakistani cricket star Shaheen Shah Afridi shared a cryptic message following his handover of captaincy to Babar Azam. PCB sacked his captaincy just four months after his tenure as captain and two months away from T20 World Cup 2024. PCB refers to the Pakistan Cricket Board.
Following that, Shaheen Shah Afridi shared a cryptic message on his Instagram account, that might have been the expression of his feelings at the time. He posted a video of a lion on his Instagram story with a mysterious caption.
Video captioned never put me in a situation where he has to show his brutality and cruelty. Although he may appear kind and gentle, crossing his threshold will reveal a side unseen. He warned against testing his patience.
This post comes after his dismissal from the Pakistan T20 team’s captaincy during a Kakul training camp. Tensions rose when Shaheen disassociated himself from a PCB statement made in his name that committed to supporting Babar as a captain of duty.
Afterward, PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi responded and called a meeting with Babar Azam and Shaheen Afridi to discuss the matter. Media sources claimed confusion came from Shaheen’s PCB statement denial, had cleared eventually.

Afterward, Shaheen Afridi and Babar Azam were seen shaking hands in a picture provided by PCB. It showed they were at peace. However, the recent social media post and former statement denial of Shaheen Afridi show underlying conflicts in the leadership change of the national cricket team.
There are speculations that Shaheen Afridi’s recent post may have proven his frustration or willingness to show his dominance despite losing the captaincy. The crisis seems to have been resolved apparently. However, the anger and actions may still affect the team and future leadership decisions.
Shaheen Shah Afridi has only captained the Pakistan Cricket Team in one T20s International series against New Zealand. The cricket team lost this series by 4-1 which may also be a factor to sack him as captain.
