Rahul Dravid to step down as head coach after T-20 World Cup

Rahul Dravid has announced to step down as head coach for the India National Cricket Team after the T-20 World Cup. He has been in charge of the Indian head coach for almost three years.

Rahul revealed it while talking to media reporters- ahead of India’s match against Ireland at the T-20 World Cup 2024. He said this tournament will be the last one, he is in charge of. The contract of Rahul will expire at the end of this month.

However, he has decided not to reapply for the head coach job that the BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) has posted since last month. He stated he could not reapply, unfortunately; considering his schedule and where he is in life.

He also stated he adored his work. Indian coaching has been a lot of fun. He thinks it is a very unique job. He joined the post of head coach for the India National Cricket Team following the 2021 T20 World Cup.

However, the representation of the Indian Cricket Team under his coaching is his last opportunity to bring the trophy to his homeland. The last time the Indian trophy won dates back to the 2013 Champions Trophy.

Rahul has led the Indian team to the finals of the World Test Championship and their domestic 50-over World Cup in the previous year. However, Australia defeated India in both formats.

Rahul also said it is a great bunch of boys to work with. He enjoyed working with this team. He believes the Indian team players have performed admirably in the World Test Championship and World Cup 2023.

According to Rahul, Indian players had a fantastic run in the World Cup 2023 and reached the finals against Australia. They have played against some of the top teams, in his opinion.

However, Rahul Dravid will step down as head coach at the end of June 2024. Netizens have started wishing him a great after-coach life.
