Letsile Tebogo became first African to win Olympic gold medal

Bostwana sprinter Letsile Tebogo became the first African to win an Olympic gold medal in the Paris Olympics 2024. It was an Olympic sprinting competition which is a foot race over short distances over a series of barriers.

After receiving a remarkable achievement, Letsile is about to receive a huge prize from World Athletics and his country Botswana. Sprint superstar from Botswana will take home more than Ksh 16 million for winning the 200-meter final at the Paris Olympics.

He dedicated this gold medal in honor of his late mother Seratiwa Tebogo who passed away in May 2024. His history was remarkable since it made him the first Botswana athlete to win an Olympic gold medal and the first African athlete to win an Olympic medal over the 200m distance since 1996.

Letsile Tebogo defeated American sprinter Noah Lyles and became the first African to win an Olympic gold medal. Noah was a three-time world champion whom Letsile beat by completing the 200m race in a new African record time of 19.46 seconds.

However, American sprinter Kenny Bednarek came second while winning a silver medal and leaving Noah in third rank with a bronze medal. It was undoubtedly a major blow to Naoh being world champion three times in sprinting.

Hence, Sprinting Olympics 2024 turned out to be harvest season for Letsile. He will cherish significant prize money from the International community and the Botswana government.

The Bostwana govt will also grant incredible reward money to remaining Olympians if they perform well in Paris in their competitions.

The goal medal winners from Botswana in Paris will receive Ksh 9 million, and the silver medalists Ksh 4 million. Moreover, bronze medalists will receive Ksh 250,00 and finalists Ksh 238,474 as a cash award.
