Ex-Cricketer Basit Ali called ICC Babar Azam’s enemy after ODI rankings
Ex-cricketer Basit Ali called the International Cricket Council (ICC) “Babar Azam’s enemy” after its recent ODI rankings. He expressed deep concerns about the most recent ICC ODI rankings.
He challenged the logic behind the ranks of India’s Shubman Gill and Pakistan’s Babar Azam, the ODI captains. According to the recent ICC ODI ranking, Babar is the highest-ranked batter in the One-Day International format (ODI) with 824 rating points.
However, Rohit is second with 765 rating points while Shubman Gill comes third with 763 points. Virat Kohli comes fourth with his 746 points on the ranking list.
Following this rating, Basit questioned who determines these rankings because he disagreed with the rankings. He emphasized that ICC does not want Babar to perform and that he will be happy with his number one rank.
Basit said Babar has ranked first while Rohit, Shubman, and Virat come in subsequent spots. He looked at the ICC ranking for ODI batsmen, he could not see Travis Head and Rachin Ravindra. Hence, he did not think it was necessary to read the remaining names.
After that, Basit discussed the most recent ODI competition, the 2023 World Cup where Travis Head and Rachin Ravindra were exceptional players but they don’t have higher ranking in ICC ODI ranks.

It was also the last ODI where Babar Azam performed for the last time. Basit urged players like Travis Head, Quinton de Kock, Virat Kohli, and Rachin Ravindra to score three or four hundred.
On the other hand, Muhammad Rizwan and Fakhar Zaman each hit a century for Pakistan but Babar Azam did not even make a single hundred. His last century came against Nepal in the Asia Cup.
So, he questioned what kind of ranking system they give. He said Babar would likewise select Travis Head or Virat Kohli as the number one batsman if you would ask him. Even he wouldn’t claim to be the best. Following this, ex-cricketer Basit Ali called ICC Babar Azam’s enemy.
